What customers actually ask.

Why do I need to back up Microsoft 365 separately? Doesn't Microsoft do it?
Microsoft does NOT keep your data forever. SharePoint sites disappear permanently 93 days after deletion. Mailboxes have a 30-day deleted-item retention by default. OneDrive deleted files are gone after 93 days. Cyber insurers in 2026 explicitly require a separately-vendored, immutable backup of M365 data — and Microsoft's own documentation tells you to take backup as a customer responsibility. We use Wasabi Sydney for the immutable copy.
What does "immutable" actually mean?
Once written, the backup cannot be deleted or modified — even by us as the administrator, even by ransomware that gets admin credentials, even by a malicious insider — until the retention period expires. The backup data sits in Wasabi Sydney with object-lock enabled. This is the specific control cyber insurers ask for: "do you have an immutable backup of customer data?"
How do you test backups? Just looking at green dashboard ticks isn't enough.
Right — and that's exactly the trap. We do an actual recovery on a real file/mailbox/system every month, automated, with the result logged. Quarterly we do a full-system restore drill (Standard plan and up). Sign-off in writing every quarter — exactly the artifact your insurer wants to see.
How fast can you actually recover?
Depends on the data and the tier. M365 mailbox: hours. Endpoint image: 1–4 hours typically. Server backup standard ($120/mo): ~24h to a fresh VM in Azure. Server backup with Datto BCDR ($350/mo): under 4 hours via instant local virtualisation. We document the RTO per system in the DR Foundation deliverable and test against it.
Do you handle ransomware response if it happens to me?
Yes. Standard plan + Cyber Insurance Renewal Pack covers preparedness. Secure+ includes a 24/7 IR retainer fronted by us with after-hours response sub-contracted to a partnered IR specialist (Notion Digital Forensics or similar). We're honest that as a small operator we don't staff a 24/7 in-house SOC ourselves — but we partnered with someone who does.
