Migration FAQ

What customers actually ask before signing.

Why is Server 2016 end-of-life such a hard deadline?
Microsoft stops issuing security patches for Server 2016 on 12 January 2027. After that, any new vulnerability becomes permanently exposed unless you pay for Extended Security Updates (ESU) — which is roughly $1k–$3k per year per server, and you can't buy it forever. Cyber insurers are starting to add Server 2016 EOL questions to renewal questionnaires too. Most SMBs that miss the deadline get a sharp insurance premium hike.
What if I'm on Server 2019 or 2022?
Server 2019 reaches EOL January 2029 — you've got time, but the same migration logic applies if your hardware is end-of-life or you're paying server licensing on something that could just be M365. Server 2022 with Azure ESU support is the modern target if you have a workload that genuinely needs Windows Server.
Do you handle the Azure consumption billing too, or do I get a separate bill from Microsoft?
Either works. Most clients put the Azure subscription under our CSP agreement so there's one consolidated bill (and we get visibility for cost-optimisation reviews). If you prefer the Microsoft direct relationship, you keep the Azure subscription in your own tenant and we just operate it.
Will my staff lose access during the migration?
No. We do mailbox + file-share cutovers on Friday evening into Saturday morning. Staff log in Monday to email + files in their new locations with a single 30-min Teams session walking them through what changed. Standard practice — done dozens of times.
What if your migration runs over the fixed price?
We absorb the cost. Fixed price means fixed price. The only thing that changes the number is if your actual headcount/data/scope materially differs from what we quoted (and we name those triggers explicitly in the SOW). Same protection that audit firms get when they refer clients to us.
